I was gathering parts to build a really good 408 Windsor motor, but am abandoning the project for the forseeable future. I have these parts for sale:
FMS 351W "Sportsman" wet sump block. Made by Ford Motorsports, this is a heavy duty high-nickel content block. It has thicker and stronger webbing than a stock 351 Windsor block. It is 2-bolt, non-siamese, 3.000" (Windsor) main bearings, bore range 4.000 to 4.030, although it can go higher. Cast iron block with nodular iron caps. 9.5" deck height. These retail for about $1,200 from FMS, and then you need the requisite machining, etc. This block was used for a short period of time. It was prepared by D.S.S. Racing, and they are known for good machine work. I have other parts also from this D.S.S. engine. The engine was originally built with a stock 3.5" crank, so I took it apart. I purchased the short block only from a Cobra owner, so I do not have heads for sale. I believe this engine block only needs cleaning. It does not need machining, although most engine builders will insist on charging you to check it out to validate any warranty. If you are going to build the engine yourself, maybe just hone the cylinders. This block is 4.030 bore. Block comes with D.S.S. main support (over $300) and the requisite ARP main studs to mount the main support:

So this would cost $1,200 new plus machining cost of approximately $300 plus the main support of $300, or about $1,800 new. I am offering this to GCC members for half that amount, or $900. You can also offer this to members of the Kansas City Cobra Club if you have contacts there, and I will drive it half way (to Columbia,) MO for free!
Second item:
Scat forged crankshaft. Brand NEW! 4.0" stroke. 3" main. LIGHTWEIGHT! This is SCAT part:
4-351W-4000-6200-2 4.000" Stroke,6.200" Rod Length,2.100" Pin.
These list price at about $1,400. You will probably never find one even on the internet for under $1,000. I am offering it to GCC members (or KC Cobra Club) for $750. Remember that this is a premium lightweight forged crankshaft. Really good crankshaft! Brand new!
Third item:
Barry Grant 750 CFM Mighty Demon carburetor. The Mighty Demon is just one step below the Race Demon, and includes many extras that make it work well with more radical cams and single-plane intakes, such as downleg boosters. This one is used for one year on a previous motor, and it stock except that the 6.5 stock power valve was replaced with a 4.5. I will include the 6.5. I will also include an "AN-style" fuel connection. This is a double-pumper carburetor with no chokes. Manual secondaries. Very good carburetor. Includes tuning video. These cost around $600 new. Offered to GCC and KCCC members for $300.
Fourth item:
Forged H-beam connecting rods. I do not know the brand. They were in the D.S.S. engine, and the previous owner said they were very expensive. They are shot-peened finish and stock 351W length, which is 5.956" and other dimensions. If you want to build a really strong stock 351, with nitrous or other forced induction, you will need better than stock rods, and these are much better than stock. Offered to GCC and KCCC members for $300.
Fifth item:
JE Forged flat-top pistons. These are currently on the above rods. I did not separate them in case someone wanted both items. I also left the rings in the pistons to protect the grooves, although I would not recommend re-using rings. Floating pin with double spirolocks. This is JE part number 170852 for 4.030 bore and 3.5 stroke and 5.956 rod length. With 56cc heads, the nominal compression is 11.5:1, with 60cc heads, the nominal compression is 10.9:1, and with 64cc heads, the nominal compression is 10.4:1, but effective compression is hard to judge due to cam differences, intake, heads, etc. These pistons alone sell for $760.00 at Summit Racing. They are used, but in great shape and offered to GCC or KCCC for $300.
Buy the Rods and pistons together for $500!
Build a very good 408, or a very good 351, but these parts do not all work together. The crank is for a stroker. The block is good for stock or stroker. The rods and pistons are for stock stroke.
I think that is all for now -- at least all of the good big items. Thanks! Call Karl at 314-680-0359 or email me at kschoenefeld@yahoo.com if you are interested.
Like I said, if any of you have a way to forward this information to the Kansas City Cobra Club, I would appreciate it.
