I spoke with my local NSRA inspector yesterday (southern zone). He was more than helpful. I want to start off by saying that even though I am frustrated with this process, I do understand where they are comming from, and respect their decisions.

They (NSRA) had a meeting with the Sec. of State office and their lawyers. He expressed that the meeting went well, and things are going in our favor, although he cannot discuss the specifics. The next step is their lawyers are drafting up documents, for the NSRA to approve outlining the specifics of the law in detail, to avoid different interpretation of the law by law enforcment. He said that he hopes all of this will be cleared up in the next 2 weeks to 1 month, although nothing is for certian.

I know that this does not help those of us waiting for inspections, but I do think it is one step closer. I will call him again at the end of the month, and update the forum with what I find out.

I think I will strip the car back down, and go to paint while I wait, and have him inspect a completed car at the end of the summer.

I did verify with him, that a clamp on wiper is acceptable, as long as it can be tightened to the windshield (set screw that won't allow it to fall off when driving) and it is electrically operated.

If you have any questions let me know and I will do my best to answer them.

Go get her painted...while you wait. What a joke? Is your painter friend going to come through for you Craig? Still going with the same scheme?

Same scheme. That is a complicated issue on the paint!!! But I will be having Merrill in Washington paint it. I am the next car on his list after he gets his current one finished! Hopefully mid next month.

(second of August I'm off to Puerto Vallarta again, so hopefully he can have it while I'm soaking up the sun!)

I can have Merrill paint the car 3 times for his deal on paint. I think it was his way of saying he doesn't want to do it. Little does he know, I'm about 4 years behind on my billing, and he will be recieving a bill for Architectural services. (I don't expect him to pay, but it will make me fell better!!!) :)

Let me know when you're car is getting sprayed, I would like to see Merrill's work in progress.

PM me with details...I'm hoping to be there this winter with my car.

Update:

I just spoke to Dennis Yarnic, with NSRA, the southern region inspector. He said about 1 week and it will be cleared up. Proceduers will be different now however, with the same result. In a nutshell this is what he told me.

Sec. of State will be changing their web site, to show the new process.
We will fill out paperwork and apply for 90 day temp. tags through the sec. of state.
Once recieved, we will have to go to a local NSRA event to be inspected by them (he said there is one just about everyweekend between now and Oct. 15th. (Last one of the year) to do our inspections.
After that, we will recieve our permanent plates. He said the car has to be road ready, but not necessarilly finished or painted.

If you fail to get an inspection within your 90 day temp tag window, you have to re-apply for temp tags and re-pay the fee.

He is working with IDOT to also possibly do inspections, as there show season stops Oct. 15th and doesn't start again until April 15th. That leaves a big hole for those of us who are finishing up late this fall.

Please everyone be patient with the NSRA They are working For us, and are doing their best to assure that we get cars like these on the road, and legal.
