Sorry to all - I've been out of touch the last couple of weeks. It seems that when I'm having car troubles - it's hard to keep up with anything else - obsession I guess.
Last week - I found a new touch up wax and did my car - I also found a little convex mirror (2 bucks) to replace my stock glass to help me actually see cars in my blind spot - which is basically everywhere. Anyway after the install, I decided to take the car out on the highway and try it out. I went 2 exits up on 44 and turned around. Heading down the entrance ramp, shifting into 3rd - bam - parts come flying out of the back of my car - and no power to the wheels. Anyway, made it to the shoulder, called a flatbed tow (D&L Rideout) for a lift home. Got the same tow to the shop the next morning.
The passenger side half shaft came off. The bolts came out. The rest of the bolts on that shaft and the bolts on the other half shaft we loose enough to take out by hand - some we're actually just hanging on their last thread! No lock tight on any of them. Pretty scary actually - considering that a few times in the days leading up to that - I had the car well over 100mph a number of times - and if it would have happened then - well - pretty scary. Anyway - new outer CV joint installed with lock tight everywhere - all is fine.
This week - I had a electric vacuum booster installed. My BBF only makes 7 inches of vacuum - so the brakes are a little iffy. Just got the car back this afternoon. Brakes are great now - but the unit vibrates a bit (mounted to the frame). So, I may try to have it mounted somewhere else - or buck up for the belt driven option.
Sorry - I didn't make it out last night - I was there in spirit.
So - does anybody have any cruises for Saturday?
