This is a question directed to the owners of Superperformance Cobra's.

It is my understanding that some of the SP cars were built using Ford 8.8 IRS rear differentials.

My questions are:

1. Did SP use a cast iron or aluminum center section on these cars?
2. Did SP use 28 or 31 spline axles?
3. Does any club member have the 8.8 IRS on his SP car?

I have perused the SP site without success in answering these questions and hoped one of the local SP owners might have more detailed info to share.

Thanks.

Kerry

Kerry,

Here's some interesting banter on CC. They mention that the newer cars have BDR rear ends but the threads are from 2006.

Hope this is the answer for you.
I was told that this is my rear end:

Dana 3.46

Recently (within the last few months) - SPF has switched to the ZF rear end - primarily because the Dana unit was out of production because it was primarily used in new Pontiac GTOs - no longer in production.

Hope this helps.

Here is a link - which you will want to bookmark.
They have the rear end parts in there.
It is the SPF Parts catalog from Hillbank.
I came in handy on Paul's build.

Those links answered all of my questions except axle spline count. But it basically tells me what I wanted to know.

Thanks guys...

When building mine was looking at a irs out of a cobra mustang - complete assembly some times on ebay fo around 900.00 with brakes will need to be narrowed, but would make a good choise and no need to worry about failure on a light car. Alot of these are pulled out for a 9inch ford - only downside to the 9inch ford is pinion low in case and creats drag. Don,t confuse these with irs out of t birds and others much stronger. If you can get cradle also you can make it a complete bolt in and be able to align correctly.
