Gents,

What is the best way to pull an engine from a Cobra...head on or from the side. I've heard it both ways. I would reallly like to leave the tranny in it but let me know you opinions on pulling both units. Also, if you have any little tricks or have any advice I would appreciate it !

Thanks,
Mike

I extended my arm to fit over nose and make sure you have enough weight on rear of picker - never pulled both on this car, to tight.

They did it head on at Fastlane and left the tranny in. I actually had to stand on the hoist to keep it form tipping.

Tom K and I pulled mine together. I had the rear end jacked up with jack stands under the rear of the car. This created a better angle for when I tried to clear the tranny. Take it SLOW. Pull the combo out a little, jack it up a little, adjust the angle of the combo coming out if you can. Repeat process until complete. I taped blankets all around the engine compartment so I wouldn't scratch the paint. I probably wouldn't have tried it if Tom hadn't just done his and he helped me. Now I understand the process. Also pull the shifter prior to pulling the combo to give you a little more clearance. let me know if you need a hand. I'm sure we can get it out. I did have the picker hitting the garage door to get enough room. You may not have that issue in your garage. That's also basically how we put Scott's modular in too, but i think he had his body off at the time. ;)

They go in easy together with the body off!

Pull everything off the engine front side to give yourself pleanty of room. I have to seperate tranny to get my sbf out easily...as mentioned before, slow is the answer..I had one person on each side of the car to make sure nothing hit any fiberglass. I use a friends cherry picker that is heavy duty so it does not come off the ground. The smaller ones(from Harbour)will call for the counter balancing act.
Use a balancer bar(long screw with crank) on the cherry picker to help keep front/rear of engine where you need it as you shoehorn in in or out.

Thanks guys. I don't have the engine yet. Keith Craft is building it. I have the cherry picker and angle cranker as I just put the BB back in the Camaro a few months ago. I think I will pull the engine by it's lonesome as I really don't need to yank the tranny....yet.

Mark, I didn't know you were a CPA...Cherry Picker Anchor !!:p Might need one soon.

Thanks again guys.
