I think #2 came off your rear diff, especially with the 3.07 shown - I would assume the gear ratio. From the S217A, I can tell you have a 8.8" Ford rear from a '90 - '01 Mustang, 3.08 ratio gears and 28 Spline axles. A couple of links:

The first number is the correct tag for your rear end.
S217a indicates the Ford Sterling Plant
3L08 indicates a Traction Lok 3.08 final drive ratio
88 indicates 8.8" ring gear series
0E16 is date of manufacture: May 16th 1990
The second tag is also for a rear end...but not yours.
Ford has not used a 3.07 rear ratio in a 8.8 rear end. It is likely Dana...perhaps for a Jeep.

No.1 Pretty sure is the rear tag and I have the one on the tranny already in place just can't figure what else even has a tag. 3.08 locking out of 90lx is what it cameout of.3L08makes sense along with the 8.8

Any idea where you came up with the 3.07 tag?
Do you have or previously had a Jeep or Chrysler vehicle...or parts for one?

Kerry you are absolutely correct on the jeep, must have pulled it off to check which rear gear I had and never put it back on.
Its a relief to know it didn't go on the cobra, been stressing.
Thanks
Just an FYI, if your applying the tags for inspection, they do not use tags as they can be changed. Thay will be looking for the stamping numbers on the trans, and engine.
Never looked at the rear axle on mine. I would just file them away as to what they were on.
