Does anybody know where I can buy a racing helmut locally?
I can't buy over the internet. I don't know what size, and my head is so large - I can't even guess.
I think the spec is for S2000 - so no motorcycle helmuts.

I have a couple of friends that run track events. I'll ask them today.

Weis Speed Shop. I think Paul found a dirt track shop locally that could have them as well. Just have Lisa put a tape around your head and order it from Summit or Jeg's. Guess you are thinking of officially getting on the track in October? So am I. Will need Helmet and driveshaft loop first though. May have to go over to Scott's to do a little welding.

Mark,
Don't mail order one unless you have tried the exact same model and size locally. Your instincts are correct!
I've always bought my motorcycle helmets at local shops.

I take it you are going to drive at RNG? Cool. I bought one two years ago at the motorcycle shop in St. Charles, I think Surdyke? It met requirements.

I have an XL helmet that I could drop by sometime this week for you to try if that will help.

Got my helmet today from Cycle Gear on the Rock road for $160 + tax. Full face, they ever threw in a free shield :D Snell 2005 and DOT approved. I'm glad I followed Scott' advice to try them on. They had 3 - 6 different makes, and they all fit differently. My melon took a Large. They didn't have it in white, but maybe I can paint it before then

Just make sure it is a Snell SA05 or SA2005 and not an MA2005 or MA05. Motorcycle helmets are not allowed under the rules. They are not fire proof.

There aren't any stickers on it, but the guy told me at the store it was an SA2005. The only stickers on it are on the back - DOT and SNELL.

The sticker that counts is on the inside under the foam in the back.

Thanks for that info Dean. I pulled the liner our and found what you mentioned. I will be returning this helmet as it is an M2005. Even though it is Snell approved, it says that it has "no fire retardant materials". I specifically asked the guy this too. :( Hope they take it back.

They gave me a complete refund, and mentioned that ANY motorcycle helmet will be this way. Soooo, I'm going to call Weis and see if they have any.

Sorry about that. I am glad they took it back. You can get a G-Force helmet from summit for around $250. You shouldn't have to pay much more than that for a good basic helmet.

I was trying to avoid buying online at the suggestion of others on here, due to different fits of different helmets.

Does it have to be a full face helmet for a roadster?
