:) Hey Cobra Heads: How do you guys think we can improve RUNNGUN?

This is gonna be my first year at RNG. So, I'm don't know how to improve it. But the car show will be a plus - and that's gonna take all of our efforts to pull that off. I heard about the cruise to Fastlane - and that sounds like fun. IMHO - if we can pull off those things this first year for our club - that would be cherry!

Agreed Mark! Thank goodness we have both Clyde and Tom to show us what we need to do to get it done. We'll be leaning heavy on their direction.

I was really hoping the club could get behind the cruise to Fastlane like they have the car show. We just need a couple of "leaders".

part of the planned agenda/events for this years Runngun? If so perhaps shopping 4 the ladies in historic St. Charles, Mo. could be suggested as part of said cruise.

David, you had a great idea that Clois and I have been working on all day. A Spectator package for $100. You get meals, how to seminars, cruises, t-shirts, 2 tickets to the banquet, free admission to car show and visitors passes for the races. What do you guys think?

Dean,

Could you also charge to ride along for the controled speed sessions?

Dean needs some feedback here. Weigh in. Lets get this party rockn. Reply 2 Dean & Clois's idea. What's it gonna take 2 get more people to attend Runngun if that's part of the goal? Post UR thoughts. Kerry? Tim? Bullit? TB? MikeyD? Mark? Chuck? Come on guys lets show Deano & Clois that we're a force to be reckoned with! BTW Dean please ask Clois to register as a member of our club & start postn on our website so he can join in the fray with his insightful banter & experience.

Can we pick one of these threads to make it the official thread to follow for ideas and such?

Car Show - Do we have all that we need for this to happen as of today? Right now, I don't think so as I have volunteered and I don't have a clue as to what I need to do. Let's nail this down first. I will start a new thread in the RNG area dedicated to JUST the car show to kick around all items concerning it.

Cruise - I would be more than happy to be a 'leader' of a cruise to anywhere. Have GPS, will travel. My question here is who would be going on this, what day would this be? Should it be a local history cruise, sight seeing cruise, curvy road cruise.....?

Costs - Well, this is where I am ignorant. I've been a part of Scouts which is a not for profit organization. The monies we made there paid for new equipment, a portion of trips, etc... In this case, my questions are this - If we do a spectator package for $100, which group get's this? Who runs that portion? How much manpower does it take? Etc.....

Events/Manpower for same - For the car show, I don't know how many members it will take to run it. As you can see, there are (3) members that carry this forum and respond to requests (not including Mark, Chuck, David or Tom). The rest are readers only, lurkers only, or simply don't want to type which is why we need to schedule a meeting where ALL volunteers for this event show up. My fear at this point is we don't even have enough people for the car show, or maybe we do, but the folks that will be there will have to be there for the entire event. To add other events at this point could be problematic. So, here it is - ANYONE THAT IS PLANNING TO VOLUNTEER, HELP OR ATTEND THIS EVENT THAT IS A MEMBER OF THIS CLUB, PLEASE CLICK THE QUICK REPLY BUTTON AND TYPE "ME" OR "I", SIMPLE AND SHORT ENOUGH?

I think all of the ideas above are great, but as Kerry said, let's get the car show perfected. I'm rambling now.....

Intelligent, Lucid & well reasoned argument. Overruled Gambino! No seriously, all of ur thoughts & arguments r good ones. I knew we could count on U. I had another thought 4 a cruise. This one is fairly simple. Bobby's Frozen Custard is in Maryville, IL. 5-10 mins from I-70 & 157 where an evening cruise 4 frozen custard could be organized. Neat atmosphere. 50's style w/50's music. BTW I didn't think u were rambling. All good thoughts. As long as there is no judging at the car show (ie show & shine only) then hopefully the work is minimal.

Like the idea - Again, the questions of who runs this portion, who organizes the seminars, the cruises, who prints the t-shirts..... I'm assuming you are talking for future events?

I believe the RNG boys have the cruise already set to go to Fast Lane since Dave Williams is a sponsor of the event. Will confirm with Dean.

As far as the car show, we are going to have a pow wow in the next week or so to nail this down and what our first year expectations are. Will advise as things happen. We have tons of grand ideas which is great, but we need to temper those ideas with what is realistic in our first year. The meeting is not set as of this moment....but we're trying to "circle the wagons".

Over and out for now.

ideas R tempered & just that ideas & no more than that. Rome was not built in a day. But dreamn about what Rome will look like in the future is not necessarily a bad exercise.

I posted this thread in the other one regarding Run N' Gun. Felt it appropriate to post a duplicate here. If you're reading it for a second time, Thanks. (Or sorry)

I have attended the last two years of Run N' Gun and London, both as a prospective buyer and an owner.

I had already made up my mind on the brand to buy however both helped cement that decision. To a prospective buyer, a chance to compare brands and speak to the manufacturers is very useful. Few manufacturers are represented at London and even fewer have been present at Gateway. I see this as an area that can grow and give the event it's own "personality" B&B or Shell Valley don't display at London. It wad helpful to be able to see and discuss those cars. As the event grows, I am confident that FFR, Backdraft and Superformance would quickly join in. The idea is to have all the major players represented.

Regarding the supplier type's, I have been really disappointed at both shows. I went, hoping to learn more about some of the aftermarket sources. At London, as I recall, the only exhibitor was Kress. We were right in Summit and Jeg's backyard. What about Enzo? Travel from Florida is expensive and maybe his market is captive, but he is really missing the boat. We all would have walked away with new toys if he had displays and inventory there. We all go to these shows with pockets full of money (or charge cards) I think they are missing the ball here. Again, another opportunity for Run N' Gun

Regarding the tech sessions: I attended last year, wanting to learn. I found the the Weds session, while informative, a little more of a BS session than educational. I was hoping to see more on vehicle setup or tips. Info like is being presented by Deane in his current KitCar articles on alignment.

The engine session by Keith Craft was very informative. Unfortunately, the setting lent itself to an extremely casual affair. We are a small market to Tremec and Ford Racing but I am certain their sessons would be welcome. It would be informative to have a session on 8.8 IRS or 9" Ford rear-gears. Most of us run Holley. They have an aftermarket team less than 8hrs away. What about Lakewood, Ram, CenterForce - we all struggle with clutch problems.

There is opportunity for Run N' Gun to grow as an informative source, whether for a racer or for a builder. May not interest the guy who just buys a Superformance to drive on Sunday. But look at the web boards. Every one of us become a Tech Head as soon as we get into this hobby. Let Run N' Gun feed that. And let Run N' Gun grow as the guys learn that they can track their baby without putting her at risk. I am a drag racer and feel comfortable in that setting. But I can't wait to try my hand at AutoCross. And just to be able to say I've had a hot lap on a road course . . .

One aspect that could be a side venture would be "Now that you own a 2400lb 500 hp car, come get some tips on how to drive her". We all think we are hotshot drivers. But the truth be known, we all could use a quick course or refresher on how to use the loud pedal and the screech pedal as they should be used.

Clois, Deane and Jay have gotten this puppy of the ground and it has reached nationwide status. With a little tweaking, it could grow to another level, being a nationwide performance show. That direction will feed right into the track event, and will not compete for dollars with London. Let London be the Show N' Shine of the Cobra set. Run N' Gun the performance side.

There's room for all in the sandbox and the bigger the playground gets, the more we will all benefit.

Paul,

I just want to add my $0.02 worth on F5 at Run N Gun...from what I have heard. They used to attend this event, and even won King of the Hill in the late 90's. I believe the last event they attended...Dave Smith rolled the car he was competing in over, and still was able to win the event. Since then F5 has started their own racing series through NASA using their competition cars...and from what I have heard, "conflicts in schedule" are why they don't return to RnG...but some feel it's bad mojo with the rollover.

Like I said, this is what I have heard and read from the ffc forum...

I could be totally off base here too...

I was the first one to get to the car when Dave rolled over in 99 and took the picture that Jim Coleman used in the FFR video. I'll bet it didn't take 15 seconds for me to get there from the wall on turn one and Dave was already out of the car. He said all he could think about while scrambling out was fire so it didn't take him long to get unbuckled and start crawling. When I suggested that he go to the ambulance and get cheked out, Dave said "Tom, I'm too pissed off to be hurt". I almost got my hand duct taped to the fender during the flurry of activity to get it back on the track. I think that FFR just has too much on their plate most years to attend R&G but Jim Schenck does show up alone from time to time. I don't buy the bad Mojo thing. I've been to R&G 9 times now but 99 was my most memorable. That was the year I got my first Cobra ride on the track with Craig Anderson, met Dick Smith, Gordon Levy & Jay Nordstrom. To me Run 'N Gun will always be a performance & bench racing event and I have a feeling (I could be way wrong) that most who come will have limited interest in car shows or cruises. I know that if R&G were somewhere that I had to go out of town to attend, I would consider an evening cruise (I wouldn't pay for it) but never during the day while anything was going on at the track. My .02 TB

Thanks TB...for the 1st hand experience. I've never met Dave Smith or the others, never been to RnG. Plan to be there this year and help the club in any way I can...also want to see the track events. I agree from what I have read about this in Kit Car magazine (when I lived in Colorado)...this is a TRACK event.

Out of curiousity - I checked F5's calendar on their web-site. Nothing is booked for the month of October. Not sure why they are not making it back.

we have had many discussions with F5. They were supposed to make R&G a recommended event but they didn't. I don't know why they won't attend but they are at the top of their game and coming in second or third would not do them any good! It is a little bit of a risk for any front runner. The competition is pretty tough in the pro group.

the consensus sentiment is that Runngun should stay with the same genre/type of event it is now rather expand into other events that mimic London.

Yep! We have already changed the web site. Thanks for the idea. Run and Gun will continue to be a performance event at the track. It will also be a chance to come and meet the manufacturers and the venders for our hobby. Check out the web site and see the amazing amount of manufacturer support for R&G this year. www.runngun.net I think you are right, we don't want to be London. We are Run and Gun. The event is growing fast and the club can be as big of a part of it as we want to be. I think a car show fits well with what we are doing. The cruise is also going to be fun. Someone mentioned instruction for new drivers. We already do that.

Buy the way, we need to consolidate all of these threads, I can barely keep up!
